Library Manager – Permanent Full Time position

 

 

The Thunder Bay Law Association seeks a highly motivated and collaborative individual that will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of its association and library. Our association dedicated to enhancing and supporting the practice of law in the District of Thunder Bay, and strives to provide a high level of services and resources for our approximately 300 members. The Thunder Bay Law Association operates out of the Thunder Bay Consolidated Courthouse, located at 125 Brodie Street North in Thunder Bay.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Reporting to the Board of Directors, Thunder Bay Law Association is seeking a self-motivated and collaborative library manager to assume library and administrative duties that otherwise support the association.
In this role, the Library Manager is responsible for overseeing both day-to-day and yearly operations of the following duties:
• Provide administrative support to the Board and its committees related to continuing professional development programs, in-person and virtual social events, and Board business.
• Provide timely library reference and research services and in-person assistance with the use of the print and electronic collection.
• Manage the Associations’ membership, website, and other related social media platforms.
• Financial administration and budgeting.
• Participate in professional development opportunities with various organizations, such as the Ontario Courthouse Law Association and the Canadian Association of Law Libraries

QUALIFICATIONS
• Excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work independently.
• Previous library experience, or a Library and Information Technician Diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution would be preferable.
• Proficient computer skills using Microsoft Office Suite.
• Knowledge and experience in using online databases such as CanLII, Quicklaw, Westlaw Next, VLex or Hein Online would be an asset.
• Experience in the not-for-profit sector.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced and changing service delivery environment.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience, ranging between $55,000 to $70,000 annually.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Preferably at least two years’ experience in wills and estates and/or corporate/commercial law, but we welcome candidates of different years of call.
  • J.D. or equivalent, and member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities and individuals.
  • Knowledge of the First Nations of Treaty 9, Treaty 5, Treaty 3, and Robinson Superior treaty areas.
  • Ability to multi-task and juggle multiple files.
  • Positive team attitude and ability to work independently.
  • Strong desire to serve Indigenous people, communities, and Nations.
  • Flexibility in handling various types of legal work.
  • Creative thinking and efficient client service.
  • Willingness to travel to remote communities.

We offer a competitive salary and bonus structure (range depending on experience) and extended benefits. Our office is based in Thunder Bay, but we are willing to discuss remote work opportunities for the right candidate.
