Scholarships & Bursaries

The Thunder Bay Law Association provides ongoing funding to the student awards programs at Lakehead University Bora Laskin Faculty of Law, Confederation College and Northern College.

The award for Confederation College began in 1975 with an annual award of $100.00 to a graduating student in the Legal Secretarial Program and continues today in the Police Foundations, or the Law & Security Program, as a $500.00 award to a graduating student.

The bursary at Lakehead University began in 1990 as a joint effort between the Kenora Law Association, the Rainy River Law Association and Thunder Bay to establish an ongoing bursary to an in-course student in the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities.  Currently the bursary is awarded to a student enrolled in the Bora Laskin Faculty of Law, with the first recipient being Julia Tousaw in September 2014.

In 2020 support for the Law Clerk program at Northern College was established with the first recipient of an in-course scholarship awarded in June 2021 to Asialynn Landry.
